The Marco Magnani Association was founded in April 2004 to honour the work of the art critic, practitioner and historian Marco Magnani, who died in 2003.
Its aim is to preserve and disseminate Magnani’s ideals and his teachings as well as emphasising and developing his critical perspective on and approach to visual arts.

The 2004 edition of the Prize – “Per Marco Magnani” (In Honour of Marco Magnani) – saw the realisation of a street manifesto as a tribute to the recently deceased artist; in 2005, the “Urbana, utopia e disastri della città” (Urbana, utopia and city disasters) edition of the prize opened to young artists under thirty years of age. Following these early experiences at the national level, in 2006, the Association launched the “Premio Marco Magnani”, which is awarded to young artists and to curators in alternate years.

In 2006, 2008 and 2010, the Marco Magnani Prize - Young Critic acknowledged the merits of young art critics under forty years of age, while the 200, 2009 and 2011 editions have been dedicated to young artists.

In addition to the Prize, the Association has also organised and put on two personal exhibitions by young artists at Su Palatu, Villanova, one of Sardinia’s most important and renowned art centres.
Crucial to the work of the Association is the promotion of culture in its various forms, through public events such as book launches, conferences, debates, national and international relations.
